After watching a friend race twice Randy Abbey, a father of two sons, Dean and Steven, became seriously hooked on the idea of racing. In 1998 Randy ran his first race in the hot stock division on a local dirt track in Stephenville, Texas. In the next season, Randy was racing a Camero in the same division. Abbey Racing as a business had begun.

That same year, after going to a race shop in Ft. Worth, Texas, the family learned about a new series. Cowtown Speedway Go-Karts was just beginning to get started on Sunday afternoons. This go-kart series ran on a small, oval dirt track inside the larger dirt oval at Cowtown Speedway in Kennedale, Texas. Dean and Steven were very excited about the prospect of being able to race. The next week, they attempted to share one, yard go-kart. The following week, a second one was purchased. The Abbey boys were officially up and running, and have never looked back.

In September 1998, the third son, Jeffrey was born and the Abbeys were blessed with their fourth son, Westin, in January 2000. Dean and Steven moved from go-karts to Bandolero cars, Junior Mini-Stocks and on to Legend cars. In 2005, Jeffrey began racing at the same Cowtown Speedway Go-Karts as his older brothers. September 2006, Jeffrey moved into Bandolero Cars and began racing for national and state points in the Bandolero Bandit division sanctioned by INEX. Westin, the youngest, is the “crew chief”. His nickname is “QC” for quality control and takes his role very seriously. Randy has stopped racing in an effort to facilitate his sons’ many racing endeavors. Their mother, Sharon, is the family’s crew chief keeping all the Abbeys on the right tracks, literally.
